SEETH THOU A MAN DILIGENT IN HIS WORKS?
Diligence, according to the English dictionary is a 'steady application; industry; careful work involving long-term effort. It is also the qualities of a hard worker, including conscientiousness, determination, and perseverance. At the beginning of every business, there is always a solid gloomy darkness that usually makes the business seem like it is never going to make it beyond the starting stage. However, due diligence is needed to take the business through that tunnel. “Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.” —Dale Carnegie
Commitment to one's work is the only thing that brings about a difference between one worker and the other. There could be a thousand carpenters on the same street, yet one will be thriving more than the others. This would be because he is diligent in his work, he is committed! I know some people would probably be thinking of juju right now; but diligence is one sure juju too.
Consistency is also another key element in diligence. "Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." —Calvin Coolidge
Be specific and unique in your work. In other words, let there be a signature for your work. Let people see your work and know it is yours without even having to ask. Be consistent and specific. There was once a place I lived that has many bakeries, but one of them was unique: 'Baba Wale' bread we do call him. Anytime you are eating 'Baba Wale's' bread, you'd feel that different taste: his signature, in every bite. That is consistency.
Be timely. It is your work, what gives you money and, inadvertently, food, then be intentional about it. “Goal setting is the secret to a compelling future.” — Tony Robbins
Go to work as and when due. In a part of this country where I lived, shops don't open there until 9am or 10am sometimes. Yet, in some other parts that I have lived, I see shops opened as early as 6:00am and don't close till 11:00pm or even, sometimes, as late as 12:00am. Be timely. Go to work and work hard. Be there for your work and be passionate about doing what you're doing. Either you work in a shop, an office or on a site, be there as early as possible and do your work very well.
Diligence is what will make you stand out. Diligence is what can make you stand before Kings and Queens. PROVERBS 22:29 says, "Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men". Think about it, a tailor must be the one behind the smart attires worn by royals and politicians, a barber/ hairdresser must be behind their haircuts/ hairdos, a shoemaker must be behind their foot wears. True, connection might have gotten those people there, but their diligence to their work kept them there.
You have to work smart and hard in order to burst out of that little corner you are in. You are destined for great things. Build yourself, work harder, be opened to learning new things, be smart. Because, “Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable.” —John Wooden
