NATURE AND YOUR HEALTH
Our very being, essence ,health and happiness
depends on mother earth. — David Suzuki

Exploration and lifestyle changes have diminished possibilities for human
contact with nature in many societies.
Over time, people want
to::
• Stream events on their TV or phone from their homes
•Take the bus even if they're heading to a very close
location with respect to their present location.
•Get a quick fix to their physical and mental illnesses.
All these will prevent humans from connecting with the
natural elements of nature: trees, soil, animals, air, flowers, rocks, streams and
oceans.
Here are the ways you can get connected to nature::
•Ditch virtual, love
physical:: when you're always leaving the comfort of your home to attend
seminars, see live events, programs, It gives you the
opportunity to feel the environment in different districts.

•Walking ::
As a result of stress from work, school orany engagements, you might feel the
need not to
walk to your destination but to use the bus: while
this
reason is valid, walking shouldn't be undervalued.
Asides walking being a physical activity, walking makes you
interact with nature– hearing the sounds of the birds and other animals;noise
of the trees and the sounds of the waves if you're staying around the areas
where seas can be found.
•Embracing
natural healing :: Researches have shown
that people get relieved of chronic emotional
and physical pain when they walk through the woods or just
watching the tides of the ocean. Instead of
going quickly to the hospital when you feel there's an
illness, why don't you first connect with mother earth and enjoy her presence
which is able to distract you from your pain and bring healing to your mind and
body.
We'll look at the impact nature has on our
mental- physical wellness.
Nature and mental wellness
The therapy for depression and anxiety issues
is just in beholding the sun rise/sun set, gardening , walking or hiking in a
forest because it increases a sense of happiness.
If all these are not possible because of the absence of these
natural elements in the geographic
location where you live, then you can go
for the virtual— watching videos online of trees, the water waves, the sun rise.
However,
you can still engage in gardening by taking a small portion of your home to
grow plants.
Nature and physical health
Not only does spending time in nature improve
our mental wellbeing, but it also improves our physical wellbeing such affecting
the immune health and blood pressure. Time spent in nature has been associated
with increased
expression of anti-cancer
proteins and natural killer cells— immune calls that can kill tumor cells or cells infected with
viruses.

Studies
reveal that the time spent in forest environments(walking, sitting and viewing
landscape ) is associated with significantly lowering blood pressure as
compared to time spent in a non-forest environment doing the same
activities.
Nature can generate a multitude of positive
emotions such as calmness, joy, creativity and can facilitate
concentration.
Summarily, you don't
have to start bothering how or where you can get connected. The beautiful thing is
that you can interact with nature even in your home!
Research
done in hospitals, offices and schools has found that a simple plant in a room
can have a significant impact on stress and anxiety.
